“The whole existence is a single composition
creation makes noise
even our thoughts are crowded;
to share living music is a way.
A lifelong study and practice of living in harmony.
Sounds are gifts, so should be make in good ways.”
-Jakir Hossain
The rich heritage of Oriental arts spans centuries, encompassing both thriving and endangered forms. Oriental music, steeped in cultural healing traditions, has seen a shift as modernization favors global instruments over traditional ones, leading to neglect of indigenous musical practices.
We are delighted to extend an invitation to you to support Obokolpo’s mission in preserving and promoting traditional Oriental music and instruments. Join us as a sponsor, donor or contributor for our upcoming instruments exhibition, workshop, seminar, and cultural events. This event will feature meticulously crafted traditional Bengali folk instruments, interactive workshops, and insightful seminars, drawing the attention of reputed and enthusiastic individuals.
Obokolpo aims to evolve into a global hub for multicultural education, focusing on Oriental arts and craftsmanship. Our objectives include creating a museum and archive dedicated to traditional music and instruments, ensuring their preservation for future global audiences. We plan to host exhibitions and workshops in public universities worldwide, fostering international awareness and appreciation of these cultural treasures.
Obokolpo Wood Lab trained five craftsmen over two years, producing approximately fifty traditional and experimental music instruments. This initiative not only supported the livelihoods of craftsmen but also contributed to the education of their children. Exhibitions and workshops were successfully organized in Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar. Additionally, Obokolpo collected and examined twenty types of woods for research on music instruments that emit unique positive vibrations. These efforts also provided employment opportunities for youth recovering from drug addiction.
The objective of the project is to promote and nurture Bangladeshi traditional music, musicians, and instrument makers through various activities such as introducing experimental fusion instruments in Bangladeshi music, promoting traditional Bengali music and prime instruments, spreading root level practices of South Asian music, organising exhibitions, cultural events, workshops, and seminars on the Bangladeshi national anthem. The project aims to create a platform for independent artists, support the livelihood of traditional musicians and instrument makers, preserve and showcase Bangladeshi cultural heritage, and raise awareness about the richness and diversity of Bangladeshi music locally and globally.
